We have also done a sticker activity book each night since last Sunday that tells the story of Jesus' last 7 days here on earth. We didn't think that Ava would get as much out of it as Grace but never the less we new that she would still like the stickers and coloring. She surprised us when tonight she had her sticker book and said "I can't find Jesus praying in the garden" - it's amazing how many times she reminds us that she remembers more than we think.
Easter Story Cookies - illustrate the story of the resurrection for your children!
You need:
1 cup whole pecans Bible
1 tsp. vinegar mixing bowl
3 egg whites zipper baggie
pinch salt wooden spoon
1 cup sugar wax paper and tape
Begin the night before Easter. Make sure to first preheat the oven to 325ยบ. Place pecans in zipper baggie. Let the children beat the pecans with the wooden spoon to break them into small pieces. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, He was beaten by the Roman soldiers. ~Read John 19:1-3
Let each child smell the vinegar. Put 1 tsp. vinegar into mixing bowl. Explain that when Jesus was thirsty on the cross, He was given vinegar to drink. ~Read John 19:28-30 Add egg whites to the vinegar. Explain that the eggs represent life and Jesus gave His life so that we might live. ~Read John 10: 10-11
Sprinkle a pinch of salt into each child’s hand. Let each child taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus’ followers and the bitterness of our own sin. ~Read Luke 23:27
Add 1 cup sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died
because He loves us; so that we could know Him and belong to Him. ~Read Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16
Beat with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks form. Explain that the color white represents the purity of those whose sins have been forgiven. ~Read Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3
Fold in broken pecans. Drop by teaspoons onto cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus’ body was laid.

Place the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door and TURN THE OVEN OFF. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door. Explain that Jesus’ tomb was Completely sealed. ~Read Matthew 27:65-66
Now GO TO BED. Explain how Jesus’ followers were sad to leave when the tomb was sealed. ~Read John 16:20-22
Before the children are awake on Easter morning, remove the tape from the oven door. When everyone is up, give each child a cookie. Together, look at the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow! Explain that on the very first Easter, Jesus’ followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty! ~Read Matthew 28:1-9
